Wild Blue Yonder
#160 Wild Blue Yonder: I read a post from one of my favorite scientists today which reminded me of his lecture I got to see in person a couple years back. Neil deGrasse Tyson referenced a Carl Sagan's lecture where he talks about a photographed known as, "The Pale Blue Dot".
"We succeeded in taking that picture, and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives.
...To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
— Carl Sagan, speech at Cornell University, October 13, 1994
This serves as the inspiration for this poster and a reminder of the mystery that is the earth and galaxy we are inhabitants of.
